Why do you volunteer?

I decided to volunteer for Your Love Rara because I wanted to find a way to contribute to my community, particularly working with children and young people. Mental health is something I am very passionate about and I feel that there is a great need for mental health support for children and teens, particularly as we come out of lockdown.

What skills have you learnt from being involved with Love Rara Brand ?

When I started working at Love Rara, I was 14 and had little confidence or skills in working with new people. As I have aged within the company I have gained skills in building my confidence, problem solving and also working with all sorts of different people. I have learned how to work in a team and support those around me, while also learning more fun skills like balloon modelling and face painting which has allowed me to develop within the business.

What is your inspiration/future goals?

In the future, I plan to study psychology at university, and become a clinical psychologist working with children and teenagers. Furthermore, I would like to use my experience in drama and music to help support children and teenagers, in finding a way to express themselves and focus their energy into a passion, which I have found useful throughout my life.

What difference do you think we can provide to our customers/ volunteers?

I think that we can provide a safe place for people to feel they can be themselves and share their struggles, while also uplifting people and creating positivity throughout our community. As volunteers we can support each other and share our own experiences, while supporting our community and promoting mental health.

Why do you volunteer?

I decided to volunteer for Your Love Rara because I have always loved to work with children and young people, and I love the idea of giving back something valuable to my community. Mental health is such a huge issue, particularly amongst teens my age, and is often an issue that isn’t taken seriously. During the lockdowns, it is clear that many young people feel lonely or down, and Your Love Rara is an amazing way to help lift the spirits of young people across Aberdeen.

What skills have you learnt from being involved with Love Rara?

I was 14 when I first started working for Love Rara, and I was incredibly shy as well as just hopeless when it came to learning new skills and communicating with other people. However, as i have gotten older within the company I have learned so many new and important skills, such as thinking on your feet and being ready to adapt to any situation, as well as gaining the confidence to work with a variety of different people and support one another in a team environment. I started Love Rara as a very nervous, insecure individual and have grown to be confident, friendly and resourceful!

What is your inspiration/future goals?

In the future, I plan to study education at university and become a Primary School Teacher, using the skills that I have developed through Your Love Rara to better the wellbeing of the next generation of young children and ensure that mental health is not seen as a taboo topic, but rather something children can talk freely about and seek help whenever they need to!!

What difference do you think we can provide to our customers/volunteers?

I hope we can create a supportive place where teens and young people can develop as the individuals they are, and feel as though they have a community they can come to with any problems or issues they are facing, as well as have a space where they can learn positive attitudes and help us to bring creativity and life into our local communities!

Why do you volunteer?

I made the decision to volunteer for Your Love Rara because I am passionate about the well-being of children and young people, and was keen to discover a way to help them in my local community. Moreover, the focus which the company has on Mental Health is inspiring. There is always more to be done regarding mental health, and I really want to help in any way I can, especially during these unprecedented times which have seen so many people uprooted from normality.

What skills have you learnt from being involved with Love Rara?

My time spent with Love Rara has helped me gain confidence in my abilities, not only as a performer but also as an individual. It has been a privilege to be involved in events which bring such joy to young people, moreover to be a part of the summer camps which allow children to improve their skills, creativity and even independence. My ability to work within a team has been improved, as has my ability to learn from and support those around me. Learning how to face paint has also been a plus, especially considering how much children enjoy this!

What is your inspiration/future goals?

Following my English degree, I will soon be undertaking a postgraduate course in Journalism. Through this, I hope to pursue a career in this field in the future. Art, drama and music have been a part of my life since I was a toddler, and as such if I can find a way to incorporate these into my career while also helping others, I will be overjoyed.

What difference do you think we can provide to our customers/ volunteers?

The benefit of this company is that we have the ability to provide a safe, reassuring space for young people whilst also furthering their opportunities. Promoting positivity and creativity in the community is so important, and as volunteers it is our duty to provide this level of support, whilst also improving awareness of mental health issues.
